Summer Update from Right to Life Mississauga & Brampton

Dear Cherished Members,

Summer greetings to all! We are writing to you today as an interim measure, since we haven’t sent any emails nor provided our annual newsletter since last spring. The reason is that our Communications Director, Barry, stepped down last June after 10 years of dedicated service. Barry’s contribution to our organization was tremendous, and we miss him greatly. To date, we have not found his replacement. We need a communications person—please consider joining our team.

However, our work has not let up. In the fall of 2024, we executed a successful 40 Days for Life campaign as well as Life Chain. Presently, we are planning this year’s campaigns in our communities—stay tuned for more details.

We hosted Nigeria’s Obianuju Ekeocha, who riveted the audience at our breakfast gathering on Saturday, February 1st. Uju explained in clear terms how our federal government has been scandalously tying international aid (comprised of our tax dollars) to “reproductive healthcare” (aka contraception and abortion). Under Justin Trudeau, Canada has earned the reputation of perpetrating modern colonialism.

Since the start of the 2024/25 school year, we made many efforts to mobilize Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board students to be a presence of youth at the annual March for Life in Ottawa. With persistence, we were able to send an entire bus of students and chaplaincy team leaders on an overnight trip. They participated in the Candlelight Vigil, Pro-Life Mass, talks on Parliament Hill, and the Rally itself. We covered the cost of all of this thanks to generous donors such as yourself.

We produced a video, “Unpacking Choice,” created by a talented young woman, which we hope to show in our secondary schools, youth groups, and general audiences. She has also completed a similar educational video narrated by our friends and experts at Toronto Right to Life, titled “Unpacking MAID.” We plan to show it at parishes, community groups, and anywhere there is interest in this urgent topic.

Father Mario Salvadori Speaks at 40 Days for Life Midpoint Celebration

Dear Friends of Life,

Sunday Oct 21 marked the the midpoint of our pro-life advocacy through the 40 Days
for Life campaign that started on September 25th and continues through November 3rd while we are praying for an end to abortion in Canada.

We were blessed to have Father Mario Salvadori, pastor of Sts. Peter and Paul parish, to rejuvenate us spiritually. Father spoke of the urgency to re-engage our youth into the faith and offered hope and practical ways of doing so. It is much the same how we need to all re-engage in changing the culture of death into the culture of life, and we need to do it now!

The evils of abortion and euthanasia are attacks on human dignity that have gone on far too long.

Thank you to those who have thus far stood faithfully at the vigil site in witness to the atrocity of abortion. You are true heroes!

Please remember that we still need your prayers and your presence at the Mississauga Women’s Clinic until the conclusion of the campaign. There are vigil gaps to be filled. Invite your friends, family and church community to participate. You can go anytime, 7 days a week form 7am to 7pm .You can register on line and also check with your parish office what days are dedicated to your parish. So come one, come all!

If you have questions, reach out to us at mississauga40days@gmail.com or

Kindest regards and blessings!

Life Chain Celebrates 33 Years With New Churches and More Attendees

This year marks the 33rd year that Life Chain was held in Peel. Originally, participants lined Dundas and Hurontario in Mississauga forming a Cross and along Main Street in Brampton from Shoppers World Mall at Steeles through to Gage Park. About 10 years ago, organizers at Right to Life, in an attempt to bolster numbers and make it easier for People to attend, invited Churches situated on main thoroughfares to hold Life Chains on the sidewalks right outside the respective church doors.

This year, with the addition of at least 4 new Churches “hosting”, Peel boasted 28 locations throughout Respect Life Sunday.

The weather cooperated so our traditional signs stayed nice and dry. We had a favourable response to our newly added signs which we feel captures the value we have for men and women facing challenging pregnancies. While we will never waiver on our message that Abortions takes the life of a human person, we want to commend and encourage those brave moms and dads who Choose Love and Life for their babies.

We want to thank all those who sacrificed part of their Sunday to come out and witness and pray; we especially thank our our dedicated Church Liaisons who step up each year to encourage friends and family to participate. In addition, we want to express our gratitude to Josie Leutke of CLC for her tireless work organizing Life Chain across Canada. She constantly keeps us focussed, updates their website with our time and location changes and is ready to provide signs to new sites at the last minute!

Even with the addition of 3 new Church locations, Brampton’s numbers remained at approximately 400 participants. Mississauga, on the other hand, had slightly over 1200 participants. Undoubtedly the incredible turnout from Sts. Peter and Paul Church makes a difference to the total number. And here we must state the obvious: the incredible spiritual leadership of Father Mario Salvatore is the key to that parishes successful turnout.

When you have a Pastor who is not afraid to courageously speak the Truth about the evil of today’s prevailing Culture of Death and every Christian’s obligation to stand up against it, you get an awakening. If a Pastor will not speak up and if he does not lead by example, by joining in and praying out there on the sidewalk, it’s no wonder some Church’s numbers were meagre. We need both Spiritual leadership, true shepherding, and citizens to boldly carry the torch for all of our voiceless and vulnerable brothers and sisters.

Edmund Burke’s famous words ring truer today than ever: “All that is required for evil to flourish is for good men to do nothing”.

Please mark your calendar and Your Church’s calendar for next years Life Chain to be held on Sunday October 5, 2025.

Let’s make next year’s goal to reach out to our neighbourhood churches and invite them to stand with us and make Life Chain a beautiful, ecumenical Witness for Life.
